Anti-Tips: What NOT To Do

Some folks try too hard to get indexed, and actually end up reducing their overall presence on the Web. Avoid these mistakes:
  1. Don't "load" your page w/ excessive keywords. Some think that by inserting many copies of a keyword into their pages that they will get extra "weight" in the relevance ranking process. In fact, the search engines can recognize this abuse, and discard your URL entirely. It is also annoying to the user who notices that you are spending your time doing these tricks, rather than providing compelling material.
  2. Don't rely on the "meta-submit" sites exclusively. Sites that offer to submit your URL to "all the search engines" might save you time, but you have left a very important activity in another's hands. Instead, submit your URL and description yourself, directly, at least to the most popular sites.
